A friend of mine who has a father-in-law living close to Pello told me, that people in Tornedalen speak a dialect which she thinks must be a mixture of Finnish and Swedish. Is that correct?

I went back to my post tomight where I posted the small photo of my black cat who is called Bob Cat, so I guess you could say that finding your comment was serendipitous. ♡
Sarah Sofia... The cream buns are "Semlor" or "Fet-tisdags bulle". I prefer them in warm milk..
That dialect is considered as an own language called "Mäenkieli".
Understandable (in a funny way) for people from Finland not understandable for normal Swedes, I can use some of it.. when I nail my thumb with a hammer... A funny thing is that you can invent your own words borrowed from Swedish when talking, just put an (i) afterwords:-)
Dianne... There is no word in Swedish that resembles serendipity although everyone stumbles on the phenomenon.
Perhaps it's time for the Swedish-academy to bring it in as a loan-word? We now have a lot of borrowed ones like "mail" as official Swedish words so why not?
There is a member of the academy who lives nearby maybe I pop over and give him an idea..
